We, at Noor Jewellers, believe that by following the guidelines set below, customers of 21K and 22K jewellery are less likely to be cheated:
1.10 grams do NOT make a bhori or a tola. 11.664 grams does.
2.An ounce bar is 31.1 grams and is equal to 2.66 bhoris or tolas.
3.21K may be marked 21K or 875. 22K may be marked 22K or 916
4. There is NO such thing as SINGAPORE GOLD, DUBAI GOLD OR PAKISTANI GOLD! All these countries import gold and manufacture jewellery in their countries: Singapore and Dubai mostly mass-produce machine-made plain jewellery, while Pakistan specialises in hand made jarao (studded) jewellery.
5.Studded jewellery from Pakistan is more expensive than plain jewellery from Dubai or Singapore as it is handmade, labour-intensive, made with real gemstones, imported and available in unique designs. You cannot find the same type of design in more than one or two stores. However, there are exceptions to this claim which no one can deny.
6. Local made jewellery is considerably cheaper than imported jewellery because there are no duties or other charges involved. If you are unsure whether the jewellery is local or imported, ask the jeweller that you need more identical pieces made urgently in 3-4 days. If he or she agrees, the item is most likely made locally as any official import from outside Canada takes anywhere from 2-8 weeks after placement of order.
7.Before leaving home for jewellery shopping, go to www.kitco.com to find out the gold prices and if you find jewellery around the same prices as pure gold prices, something is NOT right! Stolen, damaged, used, under karat and wax-filled jewellery (in tube type bangles and karas), are the most usual reasons for the seller to be able to sell at very low prices. Buying stolen jewellery, even without knowledge, is a Serious Crime and your purchases could be confiscated!
8.Rhodium-plated jewellery is NOT white gold.
